OUR LETTER

Dear Expectant Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about us.We are Beth and Brandon, and we are honored that you are reading our story. We cannot fully understand the feelings that you are encountering as you are exploring options for your baby. Please know that we admire your strength for considering adoption and realize this is a special time in your life.

We are two people who hold many roles in life and one of those roles is that of educators who strive to help others. Beth works as the Director of Academic and Student Affairs for a graduate school that values work-life balance. Brandon is a Program Development Manager and designs curriculum and trainings for people with barriers to employment. We maintain flexibility in our work life to maximize our time with family and friends.

We came to Seattle from different routes. Beth is a small town girl who grew up in southern Illinois and Missouri. Brandon has roots in Louisiana and Virginia. Beth and Brandon love adventure and met while teaching high school in Japan. We developed our love of travel and made it to Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Guam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Indonesia before ever setting foot in the United States together. Once Beth and Bran made it back to the states, we married in 2007 and moved west.

Beth and Bran fell in love with Seattle where we can hike, bike, snowboard, and play on the beach. We live in a very diverse part of Seattle where we are able to walk to a bakery, grocery store and the library. We each have an older sister and a younger brother, and we love to take trips with family and friends. We enjoy snowboarding trips in the winter and camping in the summer. We appreciate the supportive community we have built up over our eight years in the Pacific Northwest. Brandon is an avid Frisbee player and a great cook. Beth loves yoga, baking and reading. For relaxation, we settle in for some football on Sundays, Mariners games throughout the summer, and garden anytime of year. One of our favorite things to do on a rainy day is to go for a walk in the woods to breathe in some fresh air.

The most cherished role we get to play in our lives is that of parents. We love having a little one who we get to take on all our adventures and enjoy new experiences. We really look forward to expanding our family through open adoption. Our son would love to become a big brother and asks us about where his brother or sister is. Our goal is to provide a child with a supportive environment and avenues for that child to discover who they are and where their areas of interests lie. This is how we currently parent. Our son attends a language immersion preschool, so he will be bilingual.

We believe that open adoption is a great step toward a healthy life for our family, and we look forward to learning more about you and your family. We feel like visits and letters to the extent that both families agree will honor that child’s roots and future. We feel it is a great way to expand our family and grow our roots in the northwest.

We wish you the best with whatever your decision may be,

Bethany and Brandon
