Dear Expectant Parents,
Thank you for letting us introduce ourselves. We are Lisa and Alex, and we are humbled that you are considering an adoption plan for your child. Alex is a teacher, a small business owner, and an MBA student, and Lisa is a Veterinarian. We have been married for 7 years. We are excited to start our family through adoption. We know that our life experiences, as well as the caring support of friends and family, will help us be loving, kind, humorous, and reliable parents. We strongly believe in leading by example, and we are both kind to others.
We live in a suburban area just outside Portland, OR, in a family-friendly community with good schools. Our neighbors, whom we socialize with regularly, have children ranging from newborns to high schoolers. Alex’s family is 10-20 minutes away, and Lisa’s family lives in Washington. Between us, we have numerous aunts, uncles, and 15 nieces/nephews. Alex is continuing his education in order to pursue career options in HR/management, and Lisa owns her own business providing relief work at veterinary clinics and providing house calls for clients. This allows Lisa to have a flexible schedule, and to plan on being a full-time parent and spend more time at home. Alex’s 11 years of experience as a teacher will allow him to work well returning to the business world, and provide numerous skills and experiences at home that will benefit any child. We enjoy living in this area as beach trips, hiking, nature walks, and visiting family are all easily attainable with a short drive.
We believe that the most important things that we can do as parents is to provide unconditional love, compassion, empathy, stability, humor, and opportunities to pursue happiness. We believe that a child’s hopes and dreams are very important, and we believe our responsibility as parents is to help those dreams grow to become reality.
Alex: I was raised in the suburbs of Portland, and have lived in Oregon my whole life. As a child I was the youngest of three children with an older sister and brother. My mom was a teacher and my dad was a landscape architect so we always spent our summers in the outdoors going on camping trips and going to community parks. With as much time as I spent in the outdoors it was only natural that I joined the Boy Scouts and eventually went on to become an Eagle Scout. The lessons I learned during that time continue to serve me well today. It was through scouting that I learned how to be a good person, a community leader, a hard worker, and most importantly a good man to my wife and family. I look forward to taking some of those lessons and becoming a positive role model and loving member of your child’s life.
Lisa: I was raised in Washington. I lived on a farm until I was 5. I was too young to run the equipment, but I found other ways to be involved by helping with the animals, gathering produce from the garden, and following my brothers everywhere. Once I started school, reading, music (I played saxophone), and biology quickly became my main interests. I enjoyed riding bikes with kids in my neighborhood, and playing in the woods and creek near our home. Honesty, professionalism, treating others with kindness, and enjoying life are very important to me, and I would enjoy the opportunity to share that with your child.
We are really looking forward to becoming adoptive parents. Growing our family has always been a dream for us both. Together we are very strong and successful individuals, a loving couple, and now we would like to enrich our family by having your baby join us.
Both of us have direct experience with adoption – Alex’s mom was adopted and Lisa has a close childhood friend that was adopted as well as extended family members. Because of personal experiences we honor the reality that there can be some difficult questions and feelings for adoptive children, birth parents, and adoptive parents. We are very supportive of an open adoption plan. If you would like us to join you on that path, we see that as a positive addition to all of our lives. If you would prefer a semi open or closed adoption plan, we also very much respect your choice.
We hope that you will consider allowing us to share this journey with you. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us by reading our story.
