Family Waiting to Adopt

Hello! We are Sue and Scott

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about us. We recognize that you have a very difficult decision ahead of you, and hope that you’ll find the strength to make the best possible decision for yourselves and your child.

OUR LETTER

Dear Expectant Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about us. We recognize that you have a very difficult decision ahead of you, and hope that you’ll find the strength to make the best possible decision for yourselves and your child.

We are a couple who most enjoy spending time outside or involved in creative pursuits. Scott is a Park Ranger for a local park district. In his free time, he creates unique glass art, works on house projects, rides his bike, fishes, reads books, and listens to music. Sue is a middle school science teacher. She loves to sew, knit, garden, run, and read fiction. We both enjoy exploring the outdoors through hiking, camping, kayaking, watching wildlife, and skiing. It seems that we never run out of new outdoor adventures to embark upon – either on our own, with family, or with friends. At the core of our relationship are the shared values of family, integrity, hard work, life-long learning, healthy living, and a love of the outdoors.

Our families are large and close. Scott was raised outside of Tacoma, WA and has three siblings. Due to the fairly close proximity of his family, we see them several times a year for holidays, birthdays, and other get togethers. Sue was raised outside of Buffalo, NY and has four brothers. Her siblings are now scattered across several states, but we are able to get everyone together for a family reunion every couple of years. Even though we can’t always see our families as much as we’d like, we both are in constant contact with them via phone, email, and social media. They have all shown unequivocal support and happiness for us as we’ve made this journey toward adoption.

We live in the beautiful city of Portland, OR with our cat, Tacoma. While neither of us grew up here, we feel at home in a way that we never have anywhere at else. Portland offers the food, music, art, culture, and community of a big city paired with a short drive to the beach, mountains, or forest. Our home is on a quiet dead-end street, has a quaint backyard with plenty of space, and is large enough for us to grow our family. With two parks and our elementary school a short walk away, this neighborhood feels ideal to raise a child.

Without a doubt, our outdoor activities will change with the addition of a child to our home. But we look forward to providing a child with the opportunity for all kinds of adventurous experiences – their first s’more made over a campfire, their first time clamming at the beach, their first bike ride, their first time reeling in a fish, their first rocks skipped on a lake. Our nieces and nephews are growing up with opportunities to explore the natural world, and we think it’s an essential part of childhood.

We hope that you’ll be interested in an open adoption, so that we can work together to help your child to have a deeper knowledge of their heritage and family history. It is our desire to have a life-long relationship with you, and we hope that this is just the first communication out of many more to come.

We are excited, and of course a bit nervous, to begin the adventure of parenthood. We have seen the joy that children bring to other couples in our circle of close friends and family. Adoption will allow us to share our love, affection, and values with another person in a way that is deep and lasting.

Thank you,

Sue and Scott
