OUR LETTER

Dear Expectant Parents,

Our names are Thorin and Dana and we are honored that you are viewing our family book.  We are amazed by the kind of courage and strength that you have in choosing an adoption plan for your child.  We hope that while you look at this book, you get a good idea of the kind of people we are and the kind of adoptive parents that we are.  We also hope that you get clarity and strength during this journey.

We have lived in the northwest for the majority of our lives.  For the last 4 years, we have lived in a small town 1 hour south of Seattle, WA.  Thorin has lived in the northwest since he was born and Dana has lived here since she was 10.  Dana’s dad was in the Navy and she has lived in several parts of the U.S., but the northwest is her favorite.  We love that Washington is such a family centered area, is full of lots of activities to do, has amazing beauty and the people are so friendly.  We love getting outside and doing things as a family.

We have been married since July 30, 2005 and are deeper in love now than we have ever been.  We met on a blind date in the spring of 2004 and the rest was history from there.  When people say that when you meet that special person you will know, they are right.  We have been through so much as a couple, but every experience that we’ve had has made us stronger and more in love than ever before.

In June of 2012, we became the proud parents of our son Jacob.  We adopted Jacob through Journeys and had a wonderful experience.  It was because of our experience with Journeys that we have decided to adopt again through the same amazing agency that helped us become parents to our son.  Jacob has been the most fulfilling and exciting adventure ever.  We’ve loved him from the moment that he was handed to us in the hospital and continue to be amazed by the strong and intelligent child that he is becoming.  He has given us such joy that adding to our family adds more excitement and anticipation as we start our adoption journey again.

We are both fortunate to be working in fields that we love.  Thorin is a drafter for a telecommunications company and Dana is an elementary school teacher.  We’ve both worked in our fields for over 12 years and enjoy what we do.  Thorin has been drafting since he was in high school and Dana has dreamed of being a teacher since the 8th grade.  Dana’s work gives her the ability to be home on many school breaks and for 2 months in the summer.  Since we both work only 15 minutes away from home, we will be able to be there for anything that arises.  This includes when the child is sick and when there are special events at school.  We plan to be very active in your child’s education.  Dana will be able to keep a real active role in your child’s education in that she will teach in the same school that the child goes to.

We are a very active couple in that we enjoy so many different activities.  As a family, we go camping, hiking, boating, fossil hunting, fishing, cheer on the Mariners and Tacoma Rainiers at baseball games and other fun family activities.  Our favorite vacation spot is Disneyland and have been able to take our son there twice now.  We love the feeling we get every time we go there and look forward to taking more children with us to the “Happiest Place on Earth”.  We also love spending time with our 12 year old Beagle Daisy and our 7 year old cat Bart.  Thorin is a very artistic person and loves to express his artistic side through building wooden boats.  This is something that his grandfather taught him to do and he continues to do it to this day.

As we encountered the struggle to have a biological child, adoption was the adventure that we chose and we are excited about it.  We feel that building our family through adoption is what we were meant to do and the journey is something we’re honored to be a part of.  Thorin was adopted by his grandparents and our son Jacob was adopted through Journeys.  Both Thorin and Jacob don’t have relationships with their birth parents, which is something that Thorin has struggled with and something Jacob will probably struggle with in the future.  Open adoption is something we look forward to because we’ve seen what kind of hole is left in your life without that connection and maintaining that connection to birth parents is something that we embrace and want to be a part of.  We also want our childrens’ birth parents to know that they are a part of their child’s life and that we are all family through adoption.  Having visits, open communication and getting to know you and your family is something we look forward to.

We look forward to what raising another child entails.  From the mid-night feedings, to the t-ball games, to the day the child graduates from high school.  We are excited about it all and plan to be there for everything.  We plan to be very active in their education and in the activities that they choose.

We are honored that you chose to look at us as potential adoptive parents for your child.  We respect the decision you are making and recognize that this is difficult for you.  The courage that you have in thinking about what you want for your child is something we admire and want to support you in.  Your child is blessed to have a birth parent that is putting their child’s needs above their own.  We wish you the best in your search for adoptive parents for your child and hope to be speaking with you soon.

Sincerely,

Thorin & Dana

OUR LETTER

Dear Expectant Parent,[br] [br]

We are Preston and Kim, and we want to thank you for looking at our portfolio.  We know that this is a difficult decision, and we admire your courage and strength as you make an adoption plan for your child.  We are forever grateful and appreciate you.  Without you, we would never have the family that we always wanted.

We live in Eugene, Oregon and absolutely love it here.  We are lucky to own a beautiful, large 4 bedroom home in a friendly and safe neighborhood.  It is a family oriented neighborhood with a park a block away equipped with a playground that many children love to play in.  We have a lot of friends nearby with kids to play with.

When we first met, we knew there was a special connection between us.  It didn’t take long to see that we had an everlasting bond.  We discovered that we are alike in many ways, sharing traits such as honesty, kindness, respect, strength and independence.  We have a lot of unconditional love in our lives and are looking forward to sharing it with your child.

We adopted our son in early 2012 and our daughter in mid 2015 with the help of Journey’s of the Heart.  They are both very sweet, bright and loving.  They are both so excited for a new sibling.  We absolutely love being parents and really appreciate all the joy of being parents has brought us.  We are so excited to expand our family through adoption again and share all of the unconditional love our family has.

Together, we maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.  Throughout the year, we enjoy hiking the various trails from the coast to the Cascades.  We love going to parks, lakes, walks on trails, camping, parades, and the many events that Eugene has.  We stay busy, always spending the weekend as a family doing fun things.  We go to gymnastics and trampoline parks, museums, the zoo, plays, mini golf, indoor and outdoor swimming, biking and the many fun festivals and events that Eugene has.  We also like to spend time with friends and family, having them over for dinner, playdates and game nights.   We love the holidays.  We like to decorate and celebrate big.  Traveling is something we enjoy and want to share with your child.  We have been to almost all of the states along with Mexico, Bahamas, Belize, Jamaica and many other vacation spots.  We are excited to take the kids to Disneyland in October.  Animals have always been a big part of our lives.  We have a playful soft coat wheaten terrier who is very friendly and loves to cuddle.  He is gentle and loves playing with kids.

Preston grew up just outside of Eugene.  He was very fortunate to have been able to graduate from high school with many of the same friends he had since preschool.  It is very important to him to provide this same kind of stable environment for your child.  After high school, he attended and graduated college with a bachleor’s degree in finance.  Preston is a supervisor for an insurance company and has been with them for the past twenty years.  He works from home which gives him the flexible schedule to spend time with the kids.

Kim grew up in Pennsylvania and received her degree from college in Radiological Sciences.  She was lucky to have a job that let her travel nationwide before settling down in Eugene.  She worked as an X-ray Technologist in the operating room at a Neurosurgery Center, but is a stay at home mother now.   She is so grateful that she gets to stay home to be with the kids.  This was extremely important to both of us.   We get to go to all of the school functions, volunteer at the schools and attend all of the kids recreational activities.  We are both positive people that love to laugh and have fun.

When we found out that we couldn’t have kids, it was an easy decision to adopt.  We have a large circle of friends and family, and some of them have been adopted.  We are lucky to have other adopted kids and parents in our life.  We feel their support and having the support of adoptive siblings is so important.  Our kids are very proud that they have been adopted.   We talk about the birthmothers and have adoption books to read them.  We are extremely excited to add to the wonderful, loving family that we already have.  Your child will have tons of love and attention.  It was important to both of us to have Kim stay at home with the kids.  Both of us were raised with our mothers at home and felt very fortunate to have that experience.  This way we know that they are in a safe, loving environment at all times.  We are so lucky to have family in town.  Our home will constantly be filled with family and friends to share the joy of your child.  We want your child to be exposed to a variety of activities, and we will support them in any of the hobbies that they enjoy.  We will do everything in our power to raise your child to his or her fullest potential. We value education, and we promise to instill the importance of respect  for self and for others. We promise to love your child unconditionally and have fun with them. We are a very active, young family and can’t wait to experience all life has to offer with your child.

We were raised to be open and honest with our feelings and emotions.  Our home is the type of environment where anything can be discussed with respect and compassion.  It is important to us that your child is raised in a similar manner.  We look forward to the type of adoption that you choose.   We will respect your wishes and provide you with the level of openness you find most accommodating. You may pick any name for your child.  We could put pictures of your child online for you all year around so that you can look anytime that you want to see all the fun that we have been up too.  Your child will always know the love that their birthparents have for them.

Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know more about us.  We hope that something about us touches your heart.  We wish you continued strength as you work to find the best home for your baby.

With love and gratitude,[br] [br]

Preston and Kim

OUR LETTER

Dear Expectant Parents,

We are Adam and Kris and want to start by letting you know that we are fully committed to an open adoption and want your child to know they were loved unconditionally from the beginning.  Your child should be raised feeling proud of who they are, always knowing that the decisions you made were ones of love. Know that we would spend the rest of our lives making your child feel loved, given the freedom to become the person they choose to be – always honoring the courageous choices you made.

As you continue reading, we hope you will get a better idea of who we are, our love for each other, the fun things we like to do together, and the parents we are and intend to be.  You may also find that we are a bit goofy and love to laugh.   Above all, we hope you can see the love your child would know as a part of our family.

A little about Adam

Adam grew up in Oregon as the youngest of three children.  His older brother, Tom lives with his family in Eugene, OR and we get together with them frequently for holidays, camping trips and football games.  His sister Shannon and her family live in central Oregon and we love visiting them whenever we can.   Adam’s mother lives only a few miles away and we get together regularly for family dinners.

Growing up, Adam was given the freedom to be creative and to “just be a kid” – riding bikes in the neighborhood, playing at the playground, building forts in the trees behind his house, and hanging out with friends.

He considers himself to be a bit music nerd, having degrees in both Music and Education. Adam has been a music teacher at the same K-12 school for over 20 years.  He genuinely loves his work and often helps out with extra-curricular activities like school plays and class trips.

He recently started composing music for short films and commercials and has been enjoying the new creative challenge. There’s always a song or beat playing inside his head and he’s very much looking forward to making some noise together with a little one.

A little about Kris

Kris grew up in western New York as the oldest of three children.  Her parents, grandmother and younger brother and sister still live in New York with their families and we travel to see them at least once a year.  Kris is still very close with her family despite living on the opposite coast and keeps in touch with frequent phone calls.  She is always looking forward to the next time she can video chat with her nieces and nephew.

Her favorite childhood memories are from summers at the lake where days were spent swimming, boating, exploring, playing games, and roasting marshmallows around the fire.  These were magical summers and something that she has always wanted to recreate with her own family.

Her degree is in English and she works in Procurement for a small, family run company.  She has flexible work days and the ability to work from home which will allow her time to be involved in activities and volunteer for school events.

Through the years, she has cultivated a love of photography and is often snapping pictures.  You can feel confident your child will have an abundance of photos taken to be shared with you.  Kris also enjoys reading and has collected a small library of children’s books that can be read together as a family.

A little about us

We were married surrounded by our closest family and friends in a small ceremony where we became a blended family of four.  Adam has two children, Ella and Grayson that are 15 years old (yes twins!)

We have so much love for each other and our children that growing our family through adoption has always been a part of our conversations together.

We are a pretty active family and love being outdoors.  We are blessed to live in an area with the expansive beauty of the mountains, lakes, and the coast close by and we take any chance we can to explore the world around us.   We love to go on hikes, hang out with family and friends, go camping, walk around our neighborhood, tend to our garden, have picnics in the park, and spend time at local community events.  There are so many amazing things to see in our world and each year brings new adventures for our family!

It’s also important to us to be active members of our community, so we make it a priority to volunteer together as a family.  Once a month, we volunteer our time making lunch and serving it to the homeless in our community, we also work with an organization that provides needed items to foster children and their families.  We love animals and can often be found working with local animal sanctuaries as well.

We love to play board and card games and some of our favorites are Sorry, Clue, Parcheesi, Skip-Bo, and Exploding Kittens.  We also enjoy playing video games together as well and often have mini-tournaments on rainy Saturday afternoons where Ella is the usual champion.

Our home

We love our home.  It’s filled with lots of light, music and love.  The kitchen is at the heart of our house and we cook together most evenings – exchanging stories of our day, making dinner and dancing around to music while the food simmers away.  We very much look forward to the day when we have a little one hanging out in the kitchen and sharing this ritual with us.

Being hospitable and having friends and family over is something we love to do.  We think our home is cozy and joyful.

The area we live in was recently named one of the 100 best communities for young people and we live in a great neighborhood within walking distance of two parks, a community garden, and an elementary school.  Adam is close enough to bike to work on occasion.

We’d like to leave you with this…

We have much love to share and have created a life filled with laughter, music, silliness, good food, and impromptu kitchen dance parties.

If you decide that adoption is the best decision for you and your baby, we would be so pleased to get to you know you – and  we hope that our silly, fun and adventurous family is one that you can see your baby being raised in.  If you were to choose to have us as a part of your family, we look forward to sharing the milestones and smiles that are to come in the months and years ahead.

We wish you the most success in life and ease in making your decision. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to tell you a little about ourselves.  .

Love and Respect,

Adam & Kris

OUR LETTER

Dear Expectant Parents,

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. We are in awe of your courage and selflessness as you make this decision. If choosing our family is what is best for you and your baby, please know that we welcome you into our family with the same anticipation as we do your baby.

We’ve been together for seven years.  A lot has happened since we first met — graduate school, new jobs, our wedding, big moves, and buying our first home. We’ve been inseparable since our first date. We live in a friendly neighborhood down the street from a beautiful park and playground. We are a short walk away from a public library. There is an award-winning elementary school less than a block away, where kids can learn foreign languages. Diversity is at the heart of our community.

We are a very active family and love to travel. We are always planning adventures, whether they are in our own backyard, at a National Park, or across the globe. We can’t wait to explore the world with our growing family. In the last few years we have been able to see South East Asia, Arizona, and Morocco.

We have known for years that an open adoption would be part of our story. Gwendolyn has dedicated her career to helping small children in need and has always wanted to adopt. Kyle’s life-long friend was adopted, Gwendolyn’s grandfather was adopted, and another friend recently adopted a baby of his own. Adoption has always been a part of our lives.

We are supported and inspired by our loved ones. Your baby would have three aunts, five grandparents, and six great grandparents ready to spoil him or her with love and attention! Gwendolyn’s grandfather (also known as the Deacon) was adopted as a small child. He can’t wait to become a great grandfather.

We hope to provide your baby with a loving, nurturing, and safe home. Creativity, education, and laughter are all important to us as a family. We hope to help your baby explore the world and discover what matters most to them.

We don’t know you yet, but we hope to build a strong and deep relationship with you in the coming years. We are in awe of your strength and courage. Thank you for considering making our family part of yours.

Kyle and Gwendolyn

Joel and Kate

Meghan and Jacob Family wanting to adopt a child

Hello! We are Joel and Kate

We thank you for considering us for your precious baby, and acknowledge the emotional and
challenging decision you are facing. We pray that you would have a peace with your decision, no matter
what your choice.

OUR LETTER

Dear Birth Parents,

We thank you for considering us for your precious baby, and acknowledge the emotional and
challenging decision you are facing. We pray that you would have a peace with your decision, no matter
what your choice.

Adoption was put on our heart during our struggles through miscarriage and infertility. We ended up
being able to have biological children, though our pregnancies are very high risk. We would like to add
another child to our family, but it would be unwise to try for another pregnancy.

We have faced grief and loss, and understand all the emotions that ensue. Our experiences have given
us a deep appreciation for our kids and a bigger perspective on the value of this stage of life. We
genuinely enjoy each other and our kids, and make our family a priority.

Here is a little about us:

Joel & Kate:
We met in college and have been married for 15 years. Throughout our time together we have enjoyed
the daily tasks of life, work, and fun things – like traveling, outdoor recreation, social outings, and family
vacations. Currently Joel is a District Manager for a tech company and Kate is a stay-at- home mom. We
are involved in our local church and community whenever we can be. We greatly enjoy being parents
and look forward to adding another child to our family.

Our kids:
Isaac (age 5) and Clark (age 3) are our boys and they are active, fun loving kids that we feel privileged to
get to raise. Isaac attends pre-school and is loving it, and Clark is excited to start next year. Our first-
born was our daughter, Ava. She was born prematurely and only lived for a short time. We celebrate
her life in our home and look forward to the day we get to be with her again in heaven.

Our home:
We live on 5 acres in a rural suburb of the city. We enjoy the space we have in our yard, letting the kids
run and play, and the community here. We love sharing our space with friends and family by hosting
get-togethers.

Our animals:
We have a 3 year old Doberman named Ilsa. She is sweet and polite, and loves our kids. Along with our
dog we have two barn kitties, Captain America and Nya. They are very friendly and follow the kids
around everywhere. We also have a 21-year- old mustang, Mariah. She is a grand prix trained dressage
horse and Kate has a great time riding and learning on her.
Thank you for considering our family. Please know that any child we bring into our family will be very
loved, supported and cared for.

Sincerely,

Joel and Kate
