Meagan and Matt Family wanting to adopt a child

Hello! We are Meagan and Matt

We are Matt and Meagan from Southern Oregon and we are excited to have this opportunity to tell you about ourselves.  We both come from large families with lots of nieces and nephews and look forward to opening our hearts, our home, and our lives to a beautiful baby.

We met in the summer of 2007 when Matt’s mom decided to play matchmaker.  We were both in town visiting mutual friends when we were introduced and soon began trading e-mails and letters.  Matt was going to school and working in Southern California and Meagan was living and working in Southern Oregon.  It was not long before Matt drove up to Oregon and we went on our first date.  We dated long distance for nearly two years before getting married in May of 2009.

OUR LETTER

Meagan

I was born in Southern California and am 38 years old.  When I was eight years old, my dad was medically retired from the Police Department and we moved to Southern Oregon.  I have lived here ever since (with the exception of two years in Southern California with Matt after we were married).

I grew up in a very close-knit family with parents who really valued spending time together.  Because we did not adopt my two younger sisters until I was 16 years old, most of my childhood experiences and memories are with my older brother and parents.  Whether it was board games and puzzles, four-wheelers at the sand dunes or traveling for my brothers football games, it was clear that my parents genuinely enjoyed being together as a family and spending time with us.  The same is true even today!  My parents only live a few miles away and rarely does a day go by that we do not get to spend time with them.

From a very young age, I knew that I wanted to be a hair stylist and so, shortly after graduating from high school, I entered beauty school.  Within a couple years I had built a steady clientele and decided to open my own day spa.  I am not the only one in my family to own a business though, both my father and brother are also successful business entrepreneurs.  After Matt and I were married, I sold the day spa and Matt and I opened a small business (a health spa) of our own.

I love to travel and have always enjoyed visiting new places.  I also enjoy the outdoors and am always up for a good hike.  When I have some free time, one of my favorite things to do is to create new dishes for Matt and I in the kitchen.  Since being married, I have become very interested in health and nutrition and when I’m not experimenting with food, I enjoy reading and listening to podcasts about improving our health.

What Matt wants you to know about Meagan:

One of the many things I love about Meagan is that she is wonderfully complex and multi-layered.  She is highly intelligent, hardworking and perceptive and at the same time lighthearted, witty and a lot of fun to be with.  She has high integrity, faith, morals and confidence and yet she has an easy laugh, a approachable smile and a kind and generous heart toward others.  She is all these things, artistic, beautiful, and smart but most of all she is deeply loving.  I know that she will be a wonderful, loving and compassionate mother and I am excited that we get to start a family together!

Matt

I was born in Oregon but when I was eight years old, my dad got a job teaching school on military bases overseas and we moved to mainland Japan.  After four years in Japan, we moved to Germany where we lived for two years.  We eventually ended up back in Japan, this time in Okinawa, where I graduated from high school.

I have two younger brothers and a younger sister.  My sister was adopted and joined our family while we lived in Japan.  Growing up, we saw and experienced a lot of the world and were raised with a deep appreciation for different cultures.  My parents really valued spending time together and provided a safe and loving home for us to grow up in.  They gently instilled in us the values of faith, hard work and care for others.

I am now 40 years old and am a small business owner along with Meagan.  I love to learn and am currently pursuing a second Masters degree to become certified Mental Health Counselor.  I have always loved sports and the outdoors which is one of the things I love about living in Southern Oregon.  I also love to travel with Meagan and have enjoyed experiencing new places with her!  In my free time, I like to read, keep bees and spend time with friends.  If there is a lake or ocean nearby, I especially love to surf or stand up paddle board.

What Meagan wants you to know about Matt:

One of the first things about Matt that I was attracted to (besides his blue eyes) was the way he listened to me.  It has almost been eight years now and he still listens so well to me! Matt is very trustworthy, does not waiver in his beliefs and has strong morals. He is tender hearted but very manly.  I love the way he cares for others, he truly loves people! Matt is great with children, he’s very patient and such an amazing teacher! I also admire how smart Matt is, he’s so full of knowledge and loves to learn and yet he can laugh at the little things too! We laugh a lot together and I enjoy his sense of humor! I’m excited to raise a family with Matt!  As you can see he has many wonderful qualities and I know he’ll be an awesome daddy!

Family

Extended family is very important to us and we are glad to live within driving distance to all of them.  We always look forward to spending time with all our grandparents and parents, brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews. We want our child to know them as well!

As parents, we want to give our child a safe, loving and supportive home environment similar to those we grew up in.  We love to laugh and enjoy life with one another and look forward to sharing that with our children.  Meagan is especially excited about someday being a full-time mom.  Because both our families have experienced the joys of adopting, they are all very supportive and excited for us as well!

Thank you for taking the time to learn about us and we look forward to meeting and getting to know you. We are excited for the opportunity to share our love and lives with a child.

OUR LETTER

Dear Expectant Parents,[br] [br]

Thank you for taking the time to read this and find out a little bit about us.  We are Dave and Ellen and are honored that you may be considering us as a possible adoptive family for your child.  While we cannot know what this experience is like for you please know that we respect and honor your courage and strength in considering adoption for your child.  We live in Washington State and have been together for 17 years (married for 13) and are very excited by the possibility of welcoming another child into our family.

We joyfully welcomed our son Miles in 2011 and treasure the adventures we have together as a family.  We both grew up with siblings (Ellen is one of five and Dave is one of three) and hoped to have more children, but are unable to do so on our own.  We hope to be able to grow our family through adoption and have the opportunity to parent and share our love and open-hearts with you and your child.

Ellen is warm, thoughtful, and intuitive. She enjoys playing outdoors, reading books and doing yoga. In her professional life, Ellen enjoys working as an anthropologist and is passionate about understanding and protecting the past and other cultures. Ellen grew up in Virginia and comes from a large blended family consisting of siblings, nieces, nephews and step-family.   Ellen’s brother was adopted as a newborn, influencing her perspective and awareness about adoption.  Ellen’s siblings are very close and are supportive of each other and Ellen and Dave’s adoption hopes.

Dave is easy-going, gentle and intellectually curious. He enjoys the outdoors, gardening, skiing, and playing guitar. Dave recently made the decision to stay at home full-time.  In his professional life, Dave enjoys working in a field and laboratory setting as an environmental microbiologist.  Dave grew up in Seattle and spent time skiing, hiking and camping.  Dave is close to his Mom and siblings and texts and talks to them often. Dave’s mom and brother’s family are a big part of Dave and Ellen’s family life, and they visit and/or vacation together often.

We consider ourselves to be a progressive family and believe in tolerance and compassion for all.  Work and family life balance are very important to us. We are fortunate for Ellen to be able to work part-time and for Dave to be at home full time.  We strongly believe in providing a loving and nurturing environment for your child and that our job as parents is to teach emotional development, lovingness and respect for each other and others.  We also hope to provide multiple opportunities for self-enrichment and fulfillment so that your child has a strong foundation to become their truest selves.  Our greatest desire for your child is that they are secure in their place in the world, are able to pursue their passions, have fun, and develop the emotional tools they need to have love and compassion for themselves and others.

We hope to maintain an open and honest relationship with you and your child’s extended birth family and are flexible about any degree of adoption openness you are comfortable with.  It is difficult to convey in words and photographs all about who we are as people, parents and a family, but hopefully you can get to know us a little better through our portfolio. We care about you and your emotional well-being and hope we can provide the support you need if you decide to move forward with making an adoption plan with our family.  Whatever you decide, our hearts are with you.

Warmest wishes,[br] [br]

Ellen, Dave, and Miles
